We’re in full preparation for the next EUROPALIA festival. After a spectacular edition on Indonesia (2017), the biennial is joining forces with Romania in 2019, a country with a fascinating history and an exciting cultural scene.

The centrepiece of EUROPALIA ROMANIA will be a prestigious exhibition about Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957), the most influential sculptor of the 20th century.

It’s the first time in almost 25 years that a solo exhibition will be devoted to this extraordinarily versatile artist. The exhibition opens on 1 October 2019 in BOZAR, Brussels, and brings together top pieces from museums and private collections around the world.

In addition, the artistic team of EUROPALIA is working with the Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren and the National Museum of Romanian History in Bucharest on an exhibition about the Dacians, with S.M.A.K in Ghent on a show about Ciprian Muresan, plus much more. And of course, we’re launching a new edition of our EUROPALIA CURATOR’S AWARD!

When it comes to music, performance and performing arts, we will explore rich, little known traditions and actively stimulate new partnerships between Belgian and Romanian artists. Numerous residencies and co-creations are already being developed.

The programme, with around 200 events in more than 50 locations, is gradually taking shape and promises to blow your mind!

To realize this festival, the EUROPALIA team collaborates closely with the ROMANIAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE and countless partners in Romania.
