Meidhwani, a combination of the words mei (body in Tamil) and dwhani (echo in Sanskrit), is the physical translation of emotions, loneliness and fragility of the human being faced with India’s urban chaos. Oscillating between body and soul, classical, contemporary dances and martial arts, male and female, the dancers express the emotions of the human beings’ encounter with the environment. Powerful and physical moments, balanced by breaks in the form of sensual solos or playful interludes such as the dance of Radha and Krishna, symbolising the encounter of every man and woman; a point of intense dance that echoes back to our collective memory, to an ancient language, set in a resolutely contemporary world.

Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts is a dance school and research centre located in Bangalore and headed by Jayachandran Palazhy, a distinguished dancer and choreographer, passionate about movement. Attakalari productions are imbued in traditional dances, martial arts and contemporaneity, and are based on extensive research on body movement. Sound is also the topic of research and intense collaborations, often international, during the course of the creation of shows. Attakalari is driven by a beautiful energy and a profound spiritual and physical involvement in dance.
