The British Indian artist, Susheela Raman spent her childhood in England and then moved to Australia. Her parents are from Tamil Nadu and she grew up surrounded by Carnatic traditions and songs. Very young, her mother and then a voice teacher from Madras taught her the techniques of traditional singing. As a teenager, she discovered funk and soul, and then branched out into blues and jazz as she learnt to master these techniques.

After a long trip to India, where she was a student of Shruti Sadolikar – a great Carnatic vocalist –, she returned to England. In 2001, she released her first solo album, Salt Rain. Her sensual voice mixed with rhythms and melodies that she carefully blends earned her critical acclaim and an immediate international following. She has since released four more albums – all featuring the same blending – some of which showcase pop, other are more traditional. She could not miss this europalia.india appointment! With her mesmeric voice, Susheela takes the audience to an ethereal, airy and uptempo musical universe.
