Born in Turkey in 1951, Nedim Gürsel has written some thirty works, including novels, short stories, travel accounts and literary essays. A winner of numerous major literary prizes, including the France-Turkey Prize, he is a leading literary figure in his homeland and his work has been translated into several languages. He lives in Paris where he is research director at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a teacher at the Institute of Oriental Languages.
