EUROPALIA ÖSTERREICH drew a crowd of 1,673,919 people, who attended 521 events, including 37 exhibitions, 242 concerts, operas and ballets, 182 theatre performances, 26 conferences and debates, and 34 film screenings.
The exhibitions Treasures of the Golden Fleece, Margaret of Austria, and Charles of Lotharingia illustrated the close relationship between Austria and Belgium. Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka showcased works by Austria's most celebrated artists.
Austrian ensembles like the Wiener Philharmoniker and the Wiener Symfoniker received standing ovations, and the EUROPALIA Literary Prize was awarded to Jewish author Ilse Aichinger.
