The exhibition EUROPALIA BRUSSELS, CROSSROADS OF CULTURES lasted two months and was attended by 36,393 visitors. Instead of a festival, EUROPALIA organised the event as part of the project 'Brussels, European city of culture'.
It covered two centuries of Brussels’ cultural history through 250 masterpieces by Belgian and foreign artists who once worked or exhibited in Brussels.
In addition, the historical and social context of these pieces was provided by, among others, photographs and essays. These documents also illustrated contacts and ties between artists in the fields of literature, architecture, dance, and music.
