Residencies & Creations
Artistic residencies are crucial to stimulate creation and open up horizons through new encounters and the discovery of the other. With this objective, EUROPALIA has developed an increasingly ambitious programme of international artist residencies. For its Indonesian edition, the festival is organizing now fewer than 33 residencies – all disciplines combined – for Indonesian artists in Europe (and vice versa), but also for Indonesian artists in Indonesia in order to strengthen the dialogue between dominant cultures and those in the most remote regions.
Thus, Javanese choreographers Eko Supriyanto and Melati Suryodarmo are in residence respectively in Jailolo, a fishing village in the Maluku Islands, and among the Bugis people in Makassar.
