IN/FINITY is a Belgian art project that invites professional artists from all disciplines to realise an artistic process together with guests of the palliative care centre TOPAZ. This time, IN/FINITY invites Romanian artist Florin Flueras.
"Artworlds" are mildly choreographed processes that are establishing as artworks not only
products but production, research, curating, art making, forms of living. Artworlds are vague, their esthetic effects are somehow always beyond their appearances, they can be presented as events, products, performances, concepts, practices, processes, artistic identities… They can take different forms in different contexts and still maintain their internal chaotic coherence of a world. They are artworks as artworlds. Unsorcery, Black Hyperbox, The Clinic, Life Programing are the Artworlds in which Alina Popa and Florin Flueras were working together in the last seven years, each following their own path, doing their own practices, texts and works. Some of these works can be seen in the exhibition.
Alina Popa was caring for a place from which it is possible to have artistic consequences, without a total break-up of life and art, of the politics of production and the politics of the product, of oneself as subjectivity and oneself as performance, of the art piece and its framing. She thus found herself at the border between visual arts and performance, the white cube and the black box, writing and theory. She interrupted parties to give lectures,
camouflaged life in performances and performances in workshops, chanted geometry as mystical meditation, wrote SF as a documentary gesture, and she intervened, at least once, in a public discussion to talk about jaguars. She was interested in artworks as environments more than in individual works, in mediums with fuzzy borders and spatiotemporal ruses. She founded several "esthetic entities", The Bureau of Melodramatic Research, Unsorcery,
Black Hyperbox, Bezna. With Florin Flueras she developed Artworlds - artworks as artworlds. Her work was shown at Fap Sao Paulo, Times Museum Guangzhou, Pratt Manhattan Gallery NY, bak Utrecht, Wing Hong Kong, CCK Buenos Aires, Trafo Budapest, Martin Gropius Bau Berlin, Savvy Contemporary Berlin, MUMOK Vienna, Brut Vienna, DEPO Istanbul, PAF St Erme, CNDB Bucharest, MNAC Bucharest, Salonul de Proiecte Bucharest, Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw, Jardim Equatorial Sao Paulo, Fabrica de Pensule Cluj, Teatru-Spălătorie Chișinău, House of Drama Oslo, Het Bos Antwerp, Theater Rampe Stuttgart, etc.
In his recent works Unexperiences, Unimages, Unvisitors…, Florin Flueras is affecting the artworks - visitors relations, the implicit automatisms and conventions of perceiving and behaving. His artistic practices are also “life programing” practices in which different art - forms of life dynamics are explored. With Alina Popa he developed “Artworlds” environments for their practices – complex esthetic entities that were shaping their work. Black Hyperbox, Unsorcery, The Clinic, Life Programing are some of these “artworks as artworlds”. The Candidate is another entity that he co-initiated with Ion Dumitrescu based on their Postspectacle practice. His work was shown at Fap Sao Paulo, DEPO Istanbul, Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw, Jardim Equatorial Sao Paulo, Fabrica de Pensule Cluj, House of Drama Oslo, Rampe Stuttgart, MUMOK Kino Vienna, HAU Berlin, TQW Vienna, Karas Zagreb, DeSingle Antwerp, Atelier 35 Bucharest, CNDB Bucharest, MNAC Bucharest, Salonul de Proiecte Bucharest, Aleppo Brussels, Akademie Solitude Stuttgart, Bozar Brussels…
