The Belgian projects IN/FINITY and workspacebrussels invite Romanian artist Florin Flureas

IN/FINITY is a Belgian art project that invites professional artists from all disciplines to realise an artistic process together with guests of the palliative care centre TOPAZ. This time, IN/FINITY invites Romanian artist Florin Flueras.

Artworlds are choreographed projects that establish artworks not only as products but also as production processes: as research, curatorship, art production and as a form of living. Artworlds are vague; they can be presented as events, products, performances, concepts, practices, processes or artistic identities. Their aesthetic effects go beyond their appearances. They can take different shapes in different contexts and still maintain their internal chaotic coherence. The first Artworld, Unsorcery, was meant to compose and explore ways of sorcery that can eventually surpass or undo some of today's realities and subjectivities. Black Hyperbox was an extension of Unsorcery and was performed in a collective manner. In the last Artworld, The Clinic, initiated partly due to Alina Popa’s incurable illness, the art space was transformed into a clinic for aesthetic healing and performative therapies. During the past seven years, Alina Popa and Florin Flueras worked together in these Artworlds environments, each following their own path, doing their own practices, creating their own texts and works. Some of these works can be seen in the exhibition.

Alina Popa longed for a place where it would be possible to express herself artistically, without a total break from life and art, of the politics of production and the politics of the product, of oneself as subjectivity and oneself as performance, of the art piece and its framing. She thus found herself at the border between visual arts and performance, the white cube and the black box, writing and theory. Her work was shown at Fap Sao Paulo, Times Museum Guangzhou, Pratt Manhattan Gallery NY, bak Utrecht, Wing Hong Kong, CCK Buenos Aires, Trafo Budapest, Martin Gropius Bau Berlin, Savvy Contemporary Berlin, MUMOK Vienna, Brut Vienna, DEPO Istanbul, PAF St Erme, CNDB Bucharest, MNAC Bucharest, Salonul de Proiecte Bucharest, Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw, Jardim Equatorial Sao Paulo, Fabrica de Pensule Cluj, Teatru-Spălătorie Chișinău, House of Drama Oslo, Het Bos Antwerp, and Theater Rampe Stuttgart.

In his recent works Unexperiences, Unimages, Unvisitors…, Florin Flueras explores the relationship between artworks and visitors and the implicit automatisms and conventions of perceiving and behaving. His work has been shown at Fap Sao Paulo, DEPO Istanbul, Ujazdowski Castle Warsaw, Jardim Equatorial Sao Paulo, Fabrica de Pensule Cluj, House of Drama Oslo, Rampe Stuttgart, MUMOK Kino Vienna, HAU Berlin, TQW Vienna, Karas Zagreb, DeSingel Antwerp, Atelier 35 Bucharest, CNDB Bucharest, MNAC Bucharest, Salonul de Proiecte Bucharest, Aleppo Brussels, Akademie Solitude Stuttgart and BOZAR Brussels.

Florin Flureas will be in residence at workspacebrussels from 5/11/2019 until 24/11/2019
