Echoing the work of Brancusi, Gaëtan Rusquet makes visible the desire for the absolute by highlighting or concealing the real

Performance dates TBC

Gaëtan Rusquet presents The eye in the light in the eye (working title). This project is the artist's attempt at resonating with Brancusi’s work, more precisely, his selfportraits and sculptural clichés. In these works, he perceives a desire to represent the absolute, to arrive at the very essence of a form or an idea. And more concretely, a will to play with light and shadows, a desire to dissimulate or highlight qualities for the point of view of the camera. While observing photography today, especially self-portraits, Rusquet examines the desire for control in the composition of an image. Together with the artist Philip Janssens, he plays with the intention to build an image for one point of view, and the impossibility to control the multiplicity of viewpoints that occurs in a performance.

After studying Applied Arts in Paris at L'ENSAAMA, Gaëtan Rusquet obtained a Master's degree in stage design and performance at l'ENSAV La Cambre. He works as an artist-performer, interpreter or project leader in the field of performance, dance, theater and visual arts. Recently, he performed in 'Celestial Sorrow' of Meg Stuart and created the costumes and scenography for Léa Drouet's 'Boundary Games'. In his artistic proposals, Rusquet focuses on the relation between the body and space. In his work, he wants to share a visual and a performative experience with the audience. His work has been presented at Trouble Festival (BE), Impulstanz (AT), MDT Stockholm (SE), Centre Pompidou (FR), Theater Avantgarden (NO), Accionmad (ES), FRAC Lorraine (FR), Kaaitheater (BE), Palais de Tokyo (FR) and Homonovus festival (LV).
