Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957) is, without doubt, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. His fascinating sculptures made him a pioneer of modernism, and he remains an important source of inspiration for many artists today. But as well as being a sculptor, he was also an extraordinary photographer who left behind a lesser-known but beautiful oeuvre.
EUROPALIA focuses on both aspects of his work and brings Brancusi to Belgium for the first time this autumn. It will be a unique appreciation of the artist and his studio, a place frequented by the art world of the time (Fernand Léger, Man Ray, Amedeo Modigliani…). The exhibition brings together top pieces from museums and private collections around the world including Sleeping Muse, The Kiss and Leda. Iconic sculptures will be shown alongside amazing photographs and images, as well as works by, among others, Marcel Duchamp, Medardo Rosso and Auguste Rodin.
