In a vibrant cosmopolis, a group of gangsters break into a shadowy corporation’s lab and steal their newly-perfected nuclear bomb. A twist of fate and comedic turns lands the atomic suitcase in the hands of a clueless everyman, who unwittingly becomes the target of a cat-and-mouse (nuclear arms) race. A dialogue-free sci-fi spy comedy and imaginative satire that recalls the films of Tati and Keaton, A Bomb Was Stolen is was entered into the 1962 Cannes festival and remains Ion Popescu-Gopo’s crowning achievement in its humanist message.
