Liliana Lazar was born in 1972 in Romanian Moldavia. She spent most of her childhood in the large forest that borders the village of Slobozia, where her father was a forest ranger. She arrived in France in 1996. She lives in Gap, at the foot of the Alps. Liliana Lazar writes in French.
Her work is marked by the persistence of popular legends, the weight of the Orthodox religion and especially the obsessing presence of a wild nature. Terre des Franchises was in the Télérama-France Culture 2009 selection and is "one of the most original novels of recent years" according to J. M. G. Le Clézio.
