2021 will be a year of train-related anniversaries. For EUROPALIA, this is the perfect occasion to dedicate a festival to an invention that changed the world. EUROPALIA TRAINS & TRACKS starts from the train's impact on society - both in the past and present - and works within various artistic disciplines around contemporary themes such as mobility, sustainability, technology and time. The programme will take place in cultural centres but also in stations and aboard trains all over Belgium and in other European countries, where artists will enter into dialogue with the architecture, the travellers and the railway staff.
The uncertain prospects resulting from the coronavirus crisis posed a challenge to the festival preparations. However, with continuing enthusiasm and in collaboration with hopeful partners and artists, EUROPALIA is creating a festival to look forward to, with special exhibitions and commissioned projects by both renowned and emerging artists in music, performing arts, literature and film. Names and further info will follow soon.
