EUROPALIA DEUTSCHLAND drew 833,633 visitors who attended a total of 378 events, including 49 exhibitions, 99 concerts, operas and ballets, 113 theatre performances, 11 conferences and debates, and 106 film screenings.
One of the prime features of this festival was the exhibition Albrecht Dürer in the Low Countries: his journey (1520-21), his influence.
Music featured prominently in the programme; there were performances by the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staats- und Domchor of Berlin, Herbert von Karajan, and many others.
The EUROPALIA Literary Prize was awarded to German poet Peter Huchel.
