At the end of the 18th century, Goya and Boccherini shared the Bourbon court in Madrid, the city where their portraits and quartets found a place in aristocratic and bourgeois salons. From this context comes Boccherini’s String Quartet in C major Op. 24 No. 3, as well as Haydn’s famous String Quartet in D minor Op. 42, probably commissioned by the Duke of Alba, who was portrayed by Goya with a score by the Austrian master in his hands. Cuarteto Quiroga presents string quartets by Boccherini and contemporaries such as Portuguese composer João Pedro de Almeida from their album The Music of Madrid in the Time of Goya, and they perform works from their latest album, ΑΤΟΜΟΣ.
