Cuqui Jerez – Sugar Island

Sugar Island, a strange, suggestive pop-choreographic performance that deconstructs classical ballet, is founded on the artistic process of ‘suspension of meaning’. Madrid-based choreographer Cuqui Jerez attempts to question and deconstruct our automatisms as spectators, inviting us to enjoy new aesthetic and contemplative experiences. Blurring their boundaries, she dissolves the dichotomy between presentation and representation to invent a place on the surface of reality.
