Altar

This colourful composition of flowers and candles, presented as a memorial monument, was originally intended as a theatre set. Here it becomes an installation, in which the profusion of the vivid and artificial colours of the plastic flowers comes into conflict with their funerary symbolism.
Their presence commemorates a latent absence, creating a rarefied atmosphere, a singular sensation, blurring the boundary between image and matter, between appearance and essence. Altar presents itself as a reduced paradigm of the image of the world – an impressionistic and spectral portrait of public space.
