Sometimes the origin of a shadow is not concrete, springing instead from our memory, hallucination, desire or love. Maria Jerez focuses on the shadow as a new image that is no longer generated by a body alone, but is itself also another body. In so doing she frees the image from the idea of having to be original, complete or essential. In her works, Jerez explores the relationship between art and spectator as a place where different modes of representation can enter into crisis, facilitating encounters with what we find strange and alien.
