Meggy Rustamova Adeishvili creates films and installations that often start out from a personal history or a historical event. Within the framework of europalia georgia, she shows the films (dis)Location, M.A.M. (My Assyrian Mother) and Babel at DE SINGEL. The three films in three different languages - Georgian, Russian and Assyrian - explore the relationship between language and image, between personal and historical identity, and look at how the individual and collective memory is constructed. Using photos from a travel guide on Tbilisi, the essay film (dis)Location questions the interaction between fiction and reality and the power of language and interpretation. The video portraits M.A.M. (My Assyrian Mother) and Babel introduce Juliette Rustamova, the artist’s mother, as the protagonist. Identity, (native) language and memories are a common thread in these gripping works.
